In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus mentioned that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande. It has been claimed that the Gunners are showing interest in recruiting the Ivorian centre-back next year.

Diomande’s Impressive Form In Portuguese Football

Diomande has enjoyed a decent run of form at the Portuguese club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 22-year-old has participated in 12 matches for Sporting this season across multiple competitions.

The Ivorian talent has been a rock at the back as he has made four tackles, three blocks, five interceptions and 23 clearances in the Liga Portugal. He has even distributed possession accurately from inside his half based on his pass completion rate of 94% in league football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Arsenal could potentially land him on a cut-price deal next year.

Is Diomande A Good Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?

Diomande is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and excels at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.90m, the Ivorian talent is a strong presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the high intensity of the Premier League if the Gunners manage to bring him on board next year.

Diomande would no doubt bring more bite and steel to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s backline. He has what it takes to serve as a useful presence in the North London club’s squad.

At 22, Diomande has got the potential to be a future star in English football. Hence, he would be a great option for the Gunners to pursue in the long run. Diomande might even help Arsenal compete for some major honours over the next few years. However, Arteta has to give him some time to settle into life in England before he can get the best out of the player.
