It was a dramatic night in the third round of the Women’s Champions League, with Bayern Munich’s 3-2 comeback win against Arsenal and Manchester United’s hard-fought 2-1 win over PSG standing out among the results.
At the Allianz Arena, Arsenal were left stunned after throwing away a two-goal lead in the final 25 minutes.
The Gunners started brightly - Emily Fox struck inside five minutes and Mariona Caldentey made it 2-0 midway through the first half. Mikel’s side looked in full control, but Bayern suddenly came alive after the hour mark.
Alara pulled one back to spark belief in the home side, Pernille Harder equalised ten minutes from time, and Glódis Viggósdóttir completed the turnaround in the 86th minute - capping off a remarkable hat-trick of assists for Klara Bühl.
It was a bitter blow for Arsenal, who had dominated large parts of the match but couldn’t hold their nerve when it mattered most.
Over at Old Trafford, Manchester United produced a strong display to beat PSG and keep their quarter-final hopes alive.
Melvine Malard opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, before Olga Carmona levelled for the visitors on the brink of half-time. The second half was cagey, but Fridolina Rolfö found the breakthrough, coolly finishing after a clever pass from Anna Sandberg.
It was a deserved win for United, who showed discipline and composure throughout - exactly the response Marc Skinner would have wanted after a mixed start to their European campaign.
