Arsenal defeat Forest in Postecoglou's first game | OneFootball

Arsenal handed Ange Postecoglou a defeat in his first game in charge of Nottingham Forest with Martin Zubimendi netting a brace.

Mikel Arteta had been forced into an early change when Martin Odegaard picked up a shoulder injury to be replaced by Ethan Nwaneri but they took the lead with just over a half hour gone in the game.

The Gunners often score from corners but this goal was something entirely different. Noni Madueke's delivery was cleared to the edge of the area for Zubimendi to hammer it into the net with a superb strike and a memorable way for the former Real Sociedad man to open his account.

Things got worse for Postecoglou when Murillo was forced off with an injury in the 37th minute with Nicolo Savona on in his stead.

Whatever Postecoglou said at half-time did not seem to work with the Gunners scoring seconds into the second half. It was a simple goal, a long ball over the top for Eberechi Eze to square across goal leaving Viktor Gyökeres with the easiest of finishes.

David Raya was making his 100th appearance for the club and he looked determined to keep a clean sheet. The Spanish goalkeeper made an outstanding save when a deflected ball looked to be looping into the net only to be touched on to the bar.

Arsenal almost made it three soon after with Gyökeres firing an effort off the bar.

A third goal eventually arrived in the 79th minute with a free-kick routine that resulted in substitute Leandro Trossard floating in a ball that Zubimendi headed past Matz Sels.

In the end it was a comfortable win for Arsenal, with several summer signings putting in stellar performances. Postecoglou meanwhile has much to do at Forest.
