Bayern Munich face competition for AC Milan’s Rafael Leão as Arsenal look set to hijack a deal, according to Christian Falk.
Leão is in high demand.
He provided 25 goal contributions in 50 games for AC Milan last season and is valued in excess of €100m.
Leão also turned heads in the Champions League with three goals and two assists whilst continuing to put in eye-catching performances for Portugal, where he led the attack in their recent Nations League success.
As reported last week, Bayern Munich representatives held a meeting with the entourage of Milan forward Rafael Leão (25).
There was also a meeting between Leão’s agents, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund.
The meeting took place at Säbener Straße on May 30, the day before the Champions League final but have not progressed significantly since then.
Now Footmercato suggest that the offer on the table should be €75m in cash, plus a player in exchange, with Milan able to pick between ex-Juventus striker Coman and midfielder Goretzka.
However, AC Milan are hesitating.
That hesitancy has opened the door for other clubs across Europe.
Premier League runners-up, Arsenal are leading the potential suitors as they consider Leão as a possible replacement for Spain international, Nico Williams.
AC Milan missed out on European qualification in Serie A last season, so Leão is actively looking for Champions League clubs. Arsenal are believed to have the money and the motivation to move quickly if they miss out on Williams.
Bayern have already met with Williams’ team and the €60m transfer fee is not a problem.
But there could be a problem with time.
Bayern and Eberl have to sell players first. The club is currently looking for buyers for Kingsley Coman, but there has been no concrete offer from Saudi Arabia.
It is increasingly likely that Williams will head off to the Bundesliga and Leão will head to the Premier League.
Arsenal and Bayern Munich fans will probably settle for that.
