Arsenal have joined Manchester United and Chelsea in expressing interest in signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town this summer.

Delap has been the silver lining in an otherwise tough season for Ipswich, whose Premier League relegation was effectively confirmed at the weekend.

The Tractor Boys need maximum points from their final five games, alongside a goal difference swing of 20, to overhaul a West Ham team who must also lose each of their remaining fixtures.

Ipswich’s inevitable drop into the second tier means Delap can be signed for £30m, due to a relegation release clause in his contract.

The 22-year-old has scored 12 league goals in a struggling side and was linked with a maiden England call-up in March. It has been an impressive campaign for Delap, in his first full season in the top flight.

Football Transfers claim that Arsenal have now added Delap to their shortlist of centre-forward options.

The Gunners have made the signing of a number nine their priority and had a £60m offer for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins rejected in January. Watkins remains on the club’s radar, alongside Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also in the running for Delap, who is unlikely to be short of suitors this summer. The latter are pushing ahead with plans to land Delap, who came through the academy at Manchester City, and Wolves midfielder Matheus Cunha. Both players are attainable early in the transfer window due to release clauses in their contracts.
