The striker missed Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Leeds last weekend and it has been confirmed that he will be absent for Sunday’s trip to Anfield.

Rudi Voller, director of the German national side, has revealed that Havertz’s knee injury will keep him out of Germany’s World Cup qualifiers next week.

Germany are travelling to Slovakia next Thursday, before hosting Northern Ireland three days later.

Havertz will not play any part in those games, though, and Arsenal are assessing him to see if surgery is required.

“He certainly won’t make it [for next week]; he has a knee injury,” said Voller.

“We don’t know exactly how things will unfold in the next few weeks. Whether surgery will be necessary or whether it will be treated conservatively.”

Arsenal moved quickly to cover the loss of Havertz by signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace last week.

Eze joined last Saturday as part of a deal worth £67.5million and could make his debut at Anfield this weekend.

The attacking midfielder trained with his team-mates for the first time on Monday.

As well as Havertz, Arsenal are set to be without Bukayo Saka this weekend. Ben White and Christian Norgaard are doubts, too.

Captain Martin Odegaard could be fit after being named in the Norway squad on Tuesday morning.
