Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira was on a decent run of form going into Monday’s game against Vitoria, having provided assists in both of his previous two appearances against Farense and AS Roma.
Yet Porto are struggling for any kind of consistency recently, failing to win two games in a row since the start of 2025.
Their only victories in all competitions over that period were a 1-0 Europa League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv and a 1-0 Liga Portugal win against Farense. So they needed Vieira to step up again on Monday.

Vieira did just that, proving efficient and reliable in possession. The midfielder completed 90% of his passes and created one big chance, but his key moment came in the 67th minute.
Picking up the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area, Vieira cut behind a defender before curling an inch-perfect shot into the net at the far post for 1-0.
Vieira was substituted 10 minutes later, and Porto conceded a late equaliser in the 86th minute to keep their poor run of form going. But the Arsenal loanee is doing his job, and WhoScored named him in their Liga Portugal Team of the Week.

Vieira now has three goals and four assists in his 29 appearances for Porto (17 starts), and he’s hopefully starting to get back to his best after his brief absence from the team towards the end of 2024.
Even so, Porto’s situation is looking increasingly bleak. They’ve been eliminated from the cups and the Europa League, and they’re now six points behind both Sporting CP and Benfica in the Liga Portugal table.
Saturday’s game against 12th-place Arouca looks like a must-win for the side.
