The Arsenal boss was named on a shortlist that was then voted on by national team coaches, captains, football journalists and fans.

Enrique finished well clear at the top of the voting after leading Paris Saint-Germain to their first Champions League title last season.

PSG beat Arsenal in the semi-finals before going on to dominate Inter Milan 5-0 in a brutally one-sided final.

Barcelona's Hansi Flick came second in the top men's coach award, with Arne Slot third in recognition of leading Liverpool to Premier League success in his first season in England.

Arteta was fourth in the voting, and the breakdown of that has now been revealed. Voters indicated their first, second and third-choice preference for the award.

Odegaard opted against giving Arteta his top vote, instead giving his full five points to Enrique and putting his manager second. The Arsenal captain had Slot in third.

Granit Xhaka, who played under Arteta at Arsenal, also opted to have the Spaniard second behind Enrique. Former Gunners goalkeeper Mat Ryan voted Arteta first.

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann had Arteta top too, with Chelsea's Enzo Maresca second and Slot in third, surprisingly opting to leave Enrique out of his voting entirely.

Harry Kane, who was involved in the voting due to being England captain, had no place for Arteta in his top three. The Bayern Munich striker went for Enrique, Flick and Slot, the order in which the overall voting finished.

Lionel Messi picked Arteta in third, behind Enrique and Flick.

No Arsenal players made the cut for the best XI, which was unsurprisingly dominated by PSG players. Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was at PSG last season, Virgil van Dijk and Cole Palmer were the Premier League representatives.
