Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that William Saliba is available to face Bayer Leverkusen, but Martin Odegaard has been ruled out of the game with an injury.
The Gunners travel to Leverkusen for the first leg of their round of 16 clash with Kasper Hjulmand’s side in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Arteta delivered an update on several players who are doubts heading into the tie at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
The Arsenal boss confirmed that Odegaard will miss the opening due to a knee injury he sustained against Brentford. He has missed the last three games and could be out until April, according to recent comments made by Norway manager Stale Solbakken.
In a major boost, however, William Saliba has recovered from an ankle problem that has kept him out of the last two matches.
Arteta added that Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Gabriel Magalhaes are all fit to play in midweek after sitting out the win over Mansfield Town in the FA Cup at the weekend. The Basque coach had said after that game that all three players were “carrying issues”.
Both Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori could feature after they were forced off against Mansfield. “Yeah, those two are a possibility that they are available, and we’ll see tomorrow how we use them,” Arteta said.
