Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has suffered a knee injury but it is unclear as of yet how long he will be sidelined for.

The 26-year-old was not part of the Gunners’ open training session at the Emirates on Wednesday.

Arsenal will assess the injury, with a timescale on his recovery currently unclear until further examination, Hayters.com has been told.

It means the club could turn to the transfer market to bolster their attacking options before the window shuts.

Viktor Gyokeres is the only currently available striker in the squad, with Gabriel Jesus also remaining out for the long-term with a knee injury.

Havertz has struggled with injury of late, missing three months of the previous campaign because of a hamstring injury suffered during Arsenal’s mid-season training camp in Dubai.

Boss Mikel Arteta had praised the way Havertz had approached his recovery, claiming he had used it as an opportunity to “transform his body”.

“He’s been so condensed, the last two or three years in his career,” Arteta said back in May. “He hasn’t had time to do that. He had a window and he’s used it.

“The staff have explained the opportunity to him with his physique especially, that he can go to a different level, the things that he can improve that will be instrumental for him to be even more effective as a player.

“He got on board with that. He started to work. He feels better. I think he destroyed every metric they had for the last ten years so that’s good.”

But Havertz now looks set for another period of recovery in a blow to the Gunners after just one game of the new Premier League campaign.
