It is understood there has been consideration over whether regular League One minutes with City would better serve his development than another year of academy football.

Monga has been around the Foxes’ first team since the end of 2024/25. He came off the bench in seven of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s final eight Premier League matches, then made 30 appearances across all competitions last term.

His last outing away from senior club football was on April 27 2025, in the Under-21s’ Premier League 2 play-off defeat to Southampton. It appears unlikely he will be part of Mikel Arteta’s first team next season. The Gunners are set to defend their Premier League title and compete at the highest level in the UEFA Champions League.

England youth teammate Max Dowman is highly rated in the capital and he played 13 games last season. Arteta already has Eberechi Eze, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as options in Monga’s role. For Leicester, a major rebuild awaits in League One with ins and outs expected at the King Power.
