The Emirates Stadium hosts a high-stakes encounter on Sunday afternoon as Arsenal welcome archrivals Manchester United for a crucial match.
Mikel Arteta’s side returns to North London looking to maintain their seven-point lead. They seek to end a run of two successive 0–0 draws in the league. Despite recent domestic stalemates, the Gunners remain unbeaten in 12 games across all competitions. Conversely, Manchester United arrive with renewed momentum under caretaker manager Michael Carrick. A dominant derby win over Manchester City recently catapulted the Red Devils into fifth spot.
Mikel Arteta faces a selection dilemma in attack this weekend. Both Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyökeres impressed during the midweek Champions League win. Kai Havertz is nearing a full return after almost a year out. However, the club will carefully manage his minutes on the pitch. Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié have returned to training. The medical staff will assess both defenders late before the game.
Michael Carrick reported a clean bill of health following the Manchester derby. Noussair Mazraoui is available again after returning from AFCON duty. However, Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with a back injury until February. Joshua Zirkzee is also out of contention with a minor knock. On a positive note, youngster Shea Lacey returns to the squad after a suspension.
Arsenal have turned the Emirates into a genuine fortress lately. They remain unbeaten in 16 home matches across all competitions this term. Notably, the Gunners have won their last four home league games against United. Their defence is particularly strong right now. They have not faced a single shot on target in their last two league games.
United are leading the league in expected goals (xG) since Carrick took charge. However, the Red Devils are winless in their last six league meetings with Arsenal. They will rely heavily on Bruno Fernandes to create openings. The captain has created the most chances in the Premier League this season. United currently sit fifth and hope to break back into the top four.
Arsenal Predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapié; Ødegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Gyökeres, Trossard
Manchester United Predicted XI: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martínez, Shaw; Mainoo, Casemiro; Diallo, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo
The match will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event. Coverage begins at 15:30 GMT ahead of the 16:30 kick-off.
