Real Madrid head into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg knowing they need to do something extraordinary to qualify for last four.
After a painful 0-3 loss to Arsenal in the first leg, they now face the near-impossible challenge of overturning the deficit at home.
In fact, to book a place in the Champions League semi-finals, they need to score at least 4 goals at Santiago Bernabeu while also making sure their goal is unharmed by Arsenal.
Such a result for Real Madrid would be impressive, but the challenge becomes even more daunting when facing a defensive unit as strong and resilient as Arsenal.
For now, it is safe to say that the odds are heavily stacked against Carlo Ancelotti’s men, both in terms of strategy and the statistics that underline Arsenal’s consistency at the back.
It is known that Arsenal have built their squad under Mikel Arteta on a strong defensive structure.
Led by way of the trio of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Jurrien Timber, the Gunners have evolved into one of the best defensive teams Europe.

In fact, in the Premier League, they have conceded just 27 goals in 32 matches, a number that is fewer than any other team, including league leaders Liverpool.
With six games left in the English league, Arteta’s team is proving to be a disciplined and targeted unit and for Real Madrid, this remains a massive problem.
Scoring once against Arsenal is difficult enough, but finding the net three or more times without reply feels like climbing a mountain.
While many will tip Real Madrid to score three goals against Arsenal, their remarkable defensive record over the past 16 months is something that many are unaware of.
To put things in perspective, AS reports that the last time they conceded 3 goals in a match was back in December 2023, which was against Luton town.
That game ended 4-3 in Arsenal’s favour. Since then, Arsenal have played 78 game across all competitions without conceedng in three goals in single day.
While Real Madrid remain one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking teams, the statistics and recent form point to a difficult night ahead.
The club has overcome tough situations in the past, but this test may be one of their most difficult yet.
