Brazil Women beat the United States 2-1 at Neo Química Arena on Saturday, and head coach Arthur Elias said starting goalkeeper Lelê came off with a muscular problem while praising her display.
As reported by ge.globo, São Paulo’s city hall dropped a plan to add permanent stands in the north and south sectors to raise the stadium’s capacity, a backdrop to debate over the 2027 Women’s World Cup opener.
Lelê was among Brazil’s standouts, saving two of the visitors’ three shots on target. She asked to be replaced on 36 minutes of the second half after feeling pain in her right thigh. The national team’s medical department has yet to reveal the extent of the issue.
Elias said he had not spoken to her after the match and that she had certainly felt a muscular issue, which would be assessed shortly by the medical staff, adding that he hoped she would be fine. He called it a very good performance by Brazil, praised Lelê’s contribution and said Lorena came on impressively.
Asked about Neo Química Arena potentially missing out on the tournament’s opening match, he said there was neither a push nor a preference, stressing it is a World Cup in Brazil.
Brazil face the United States again on Tuesday 9 at 21:30 at Castelão in Fortaleza. Corinthians Women, the Brabas, will be out for more than 40 days during the FIFA window, then are due to return on 17 July against Ferroviária in the Paulista’s fourth round.
