Manchester City resume continental action on Wednesday night as they travel to the French Riviera to face AS Monaco in their second game of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League league phase.
Last time out, Pep Guardiola’s side delivered an emphatic victory to bounce back from dropped points in North London as a five-star display demolished Burnley with a 5-1 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was a rather poor first-half in general from City, with a Maxime Estève own goal putting the hosts ahead following a Jérémy Doku cross, awkwardly poked into his own net by the Frenchman.
The Blues began to step off the gas despite only a slender lead and were punished ruthlessly for their complacency as Jaidon Anthony levelled with the visitors’ first shot on target out of practically nothing. Parity restored at the interval.
The second 45 minuutes, however, was wildly different. The home side came out revitalised and put those in claret to the sword thanks to goals from Matheus Nunes, another unfortunate own goal from Burnley’s No. 5, and a brace from Erling Haaland in the dying embers.
Now, with the fixture schedule as frantic as ever, City turn their heads to the most sought-after trophy in club football; the UEFA Champions League. Those of a sky blue persuasion will be looking to get another huge three points on the board in the league phase as Guardiola’s squad travel to the sovereign city of Monaco in their first European away fixture of the new campaign.
The hosts of Wednesday night’s clash come into the clash in varied form, having won four of their seven games across all competitions so far this season, losing the remaining three, with their most recent result being a 3-1 defeat away to Lorient in Ligue 1.
This takes the number of league goals conceded in the first six domestic games to 10, whilst Adi Hütter’s side have netted a total of 14 strikes and sit in a respectable 4th position in their division on 12 points.

AS Monaco have had their fair share of troubles on the fitness and injury front, as all of Lamine Camara, Lucas Michal, Lukas Hradecky, Aladji Bamba, Aleksandr Golovin, Denis Zakaria, Lukas Hradecky, Christian Mawissa, Paris Brunner, and Paul Pogba are due to be unavailable.
For visitors Manchester City, the injury woes seem somewhat unrelenting as Abdukodir Khusanov, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Omar Marmoush are all due to be absent from the contest owing to ongoing recoveries from respective issues.
Both Rodri and Rayan Cherki are in contention for Wednesday night having both returned to training, recovering from respective injuries and concerns. In contrast, Aït-Nouri and Marmoush are expected to be sidelined for a little while longer.

Pep Guardiola and a Manchester City first-team player are due to face the media for questions upon arrival in Monaco on Tuesday evening.
The only two times the Blues have come up against AS Monaco was eight years ago in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League Round of 16, resulting in one of the many painful defeats in the competition prior to the glorious triumph of 2023.
Manchester City led 5-3 on aggregate as they prepared for the return leg in France, coming into the second-leg as heavy favourites to progress during Pep Guardiola’s debut season at the Etihad Stadium.
However, a triplet of goals from Kylian Mbappé, Fabinho and Tiémoué Bakayoko destroyed Mancunian dreams as AS Monaco progressed via the away goal rule and a 6-6 scoreline on aggregate after a 3-1 victory on home turf.
For viewers in the United Kingdom, the game will be available to stream from 20:00 BST on TNT Sports and Discovery+.
For those in the United States, you can watch the action live from 15:00 EST on Paramount+.
