Aston Villa are set to miss out on Marco Asensio, per The Athletic.
The Villains had been negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain for Asensio and were reportedly €5 million away from agreeing on a deal to sign him this summer.
However, it appears Asensio won’t be joining the Birmingham-based outfit. He is on his way to Fenerbahce for his medicals.
Asensio joined the Villans in the second half of last season and made a massive impact, bagging eight goals and an assist in 21 appearances.
The Villains need a spark in attack after failing to score in their first three Premier League games of the season, and Asensio would have bolstered their forward line.
Unfortunately, Villa have to turn elsewhere for reinforcements. Lucas Paqueta was linked with them, but he has apparently rejected the advances.
He delivered the news with a celebration that indicated his decision to stay at West Ham United following his goal versus Nottingham Forest.
With time running out in the window, Villa cannot afford to stand still after missing out on Asensio, who ‘brings real speed and cutting edge‘.
The lack of fluidity up front is glaring, with Evann Guessand looking out of his depth and Ollie Watkins struggling to find form.
Two marquee signings are a must if they are to salvage this season and give Villa manager Unai Emery the tools to compete.
