FT: Rangers 0-1 Genk

A disappointing result for Rangers as they fall to defeat, and it could have been a lot worse.

Genk missed a penalty and had a goal ruled out for offside on a disappointing night for the hosts at Ibrox.

Former Celtic man Oh Hyeon-gyu was at the heart of the action for the visitors with the saved spot-kick, winning goal and the ruled out second.

Finally, Unai Emery's side clinch their first win of the season. They started brightly and got the goal, courtesy of John McGinn, in the first half, but intensity dropped as the game went on.

It was a night to forget for Morgan Rogers, who was ultimately jeered by his own supporters when he completed a pass late on.

Things may not have been pretty across the 90 minutes, but it was ultimately job done.

OR IS IT??

VAR intervenes and Genk's second goal is ruled out for offside. A huge let off for Russel Martin's side as they look for a route back into this game. A lifeline, if you will!

A relatively quiet first half at Ibrox that eventually sparked into life with plenty of VAR drama.

Russell Martin's side find themselves at a disadvantage following Diomande's needless sending off, but goalkeeper Butland handed them a lifeline with a crucial penalty spot on the brink of half time.

A big 45 minutes ahead!

PENALTY!

Things appear to go from bad to worse for Rangers as Genk are awarded a penalty. Yaimar Medina was clipped in the box by James Tavernier and the spot-kick is awarded after a VAR intervention.

BUT... it's a brilliant stop from Jack Butland to deny Oh Hyeon-gyu and the scoreline remains level!

Emi Martínez absence explained...

The Villa goalkeeper is not in the squad for tonight's game, with Marco Bizot in between the sticks against Bologna.

The Argentine's omission is down to a minor injury and muscle pain. It is not thought to be a serious issue.
