Aston Villa seal £38m Joao Gomes move from Wolves | OneFootball

Aston Villa have signed Joao Gomes from Wolves in a deal worth about £38m on a five-year contract. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 25-year-old is their second summer addition after a club-record £52m move for Switzerland international Johan Manzambi.

The midfielder switches across the West Midlands after 130 appearances in three seasons at Molineux.

His exit had been widely anticipated following Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League, and Villa moved after a switch to long-time suitors Atletico Madrid did not materialise.

Unai Emery had not planned to recruit a midfielder this summer, but acted when Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United for £35m and Amadou Onana suffered a serious knee injury.

Wolves technical director Matt Jackson praised Gomes as a model professional and a family man who is valued by coaches and team-mates. He said the club are sorry to lose him, yet must take responsible decisions to strengthen collectively and operate within their means.

Villa are also set for a major outgoing, with Morgan Rogers on course to join Chelsea in a British record £117m transfer. He arrived in London on Monday for a medical ahead of completing the move.
