Aston Villa have reached an agreement in principle with Poland international Matty Cash over a new deal, according to The Athletic.

The Villa defender has played 191 games since joining them from Nottingham Forest in September 2020.

Cash was due to be out of a contract in 2027, but he has signed a new extension until 2029, with the option of a further year.

The 28-year-old has been rewarded for his incredible performances for the Midlands club, having been a key player under manager Unai Emery.

Cash made 38 appearances across all competitions for Villa last season and has started all 11 games they have played this term.

The England-born inverted right-back has bagged 11 goals and 12 assists for the Villans and will hope to keep contributing positively at both ends of the pitch.

Villa recently handed Lucas Digne a new deal, while captain John McGinn is also close to signing a new contract. They are also hoping Morgan Rogers will sign a new deal.

They have been on an impressive run in recent weeks, winning their last five games across all competitions after failing to win their first six games this term.

Cash has been crucial to their resurgence, and will hope to end this season with a major silverware as Villa strive to mount credible challenges across all competitions.

Villa visit Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League on Thursday, and they will look to maintain the winning start following earlier victories over Bologna and Feyenoord.

They then host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, and a victory would send a statement of intent to other domestic rivals.
