Aston Villa face Newcastle United in one of the weekend’s most appealing FA Cup fourth-round ties.
Two teams who have challenged the established elite in recent seasons lock horns at Villa Park, each eager to win silverware this season.
For Villa, it’s been almost 30 years since the club’s last major trophy, but progress under Unai Emery has raised optimism that that could change this season.
Villa are third in the Premier League and also into the Europa League’s last 16. After a disappointing exit in the League Cup, the fanbase will demand that the FA Cup is given a better run.
In their path are Newcastle, who ended their own trophy drought with League Cup success last season. Eddie Howe has reiterated his desire to go far in this tournament, but the Magpies will need to improve on their away form this season to earn progress.
Midfield personnel is light for Aston Villa with John McGinn, Boubacar Kamara (both knee) and Youri Tielemans all sidelined. The onus will again fall on Amadou Onana in the engine room who could be partnered by winter window recruit Douglas Luiz. Luiz joined on loan from Juventus in January for a second spell at Villa Park. Ross Barkley offers an alternative.
Andres Garcia and Matty Cash are also out, so Lamare Bogarde should shuffle in at right-back. Further forward, Tammy Abraham and Leon Bailey are pushing for involvement after mid-season arrivals, the latter recalled from a loan spell at AS Roma.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Bizot; Bogarde, Lindelof, Torres, Digne; Onana, Luiz; Bailey, Rogers, Buendia; Abraham.
Aston Villa vs Newcastle will kick off at Villa Park at 17:45 GMT on Saturday 14th February 2026.
The match will be broadcast on BBC 1 and TNT Sports 3 in the UK.
