Aston Villa vs Paris Saint-Germain Preview

After last Wednesday's first leg at Parc des Princes, it is Paris Saint-Germain who are in the box seat to reach the Champions League semi-finals. Against the odds, and certainly against the run of play, it was Aston Villa who struck first in the French capital, with Morgan Rogers rounding off a fantastically well-worked team move. However, Désiré Doué lashed home a stunning equaliser soon after, from which point PSG never looked back. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fired les Rouge-et-Bleu in front right after half time before, in injury time, Nuno Mendes scored that all-important third. So, will les Parisiens make this advantage count when they travel to Birmingham on Tuesday?

The French champions are seeking to reach a fourth Champions League semi-final in just six seasons, dumped out at that stage by Borussia Dortmund 12 months ago. Luis Enrique's side have already wrapped up the Ligue 1 title, and will face Reims in the Coupe de France Final, but this is the competition everyone in Paris is desperate to win. PSG were not in action over the weekend, their trip to Nantes postponed upon request, so they'll certainly be ready and raring to go in the Midlands.

As for Aston Villa, unlike their visitors, they have been European champions, hoisting this trophy aloft in 1982, seeking to reach a first semi since those glory days. Unai Emery's team beat Bayern Munich in the league phase in October but, if they're able to overturn that first leg deficit, this would be an even more memorable night. On Saturday, the Claret and Blue Army beat bottom of the table Southampton 3-0, thanks to goals from a trio of substitutes: Ollie Watkins, John McGinn and Donyell Malen. That was a fourth successive Premier League win for Villa, moving them up to seventh, just a point below the Champions League spots. Now, can the Villans pull off an almighty comeback?

Aston Villa Team News

Unai Emery made four changes at St Mary's on Saturday, expected to largely revert to the side that started in Paris. This would see Marcus Rashford once against chosen to lead the line, with Ollie Watkins once again amongst the substitutes.

Meantime, Jacob Ramsey got the nod over Marco Asensio at Parc des Princes, even though the Spaniard will be doubly determined to impress against his parent club. Andrés García and weekend scorer Donyell Malen are not in the UEFA squad, while Leon Bailey remains sidelined.

Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Paris Saint-Germain: (4-2-3-1): Martínez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Tielemans, Kamara, McGinn, Rogers, Ramsey; Rashford.

Aston Villa Player to Watch vs Paris Saint-Germain

Marcus Rashford certainly has history with PSG doesn't he, scoring during each of his last three appearances against them prior to last mid-week, so could he be Villa's hero?

Paris Saint-Germain Team News

As alluded to earlier, PSG were not in action at the weekend, with Luis Enrique's squad at full strength. He's forecast to make just one change; captain Marquinhos will return, following suspension, displacing Lucas Beraldo at the heart of les Rouge-et-Bleu's defence.

In attack, Ousmane Dembélé will continue to be deployed through the middle, flanked by first leg scorers Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué, chosen over Bradley Barcola and fit-again Kang-in Lee.
