Reports in Italy claim that Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion have seen an initial bid for Italy U21 talent Honest Ahanor turned down by his current employers at Atalanta.

Atalanta say no to Brighton bid for Ahanor

According to reports over the weekend, Brighton had submitted an offer in the region of €34m (£30m) for the 18-year-old left-sided defender, who only joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer.

According to Tuesday’s updates from Nicolo Schira, that offer has been rejected by Atalanta, who have reportedly set their valuation in the region of €40m-€45m for the teenager.

Ahanor joined Atalanta in a €20m deal from Genoa during the previous summer transfer window, which made him the second-most expensive Italian 17-year-old ever following Pietro Pellegri’s big-money move to Monaco in 2018, again from Genoa.

Ahanor made 22 appearances for Atalanta in Serie A this season, 15 in the starting XI, and made a further nine appearances in the Champions League and another four in the Coppa Italia.

He has most regularly featured on the left side of a back three for Atalanta, but is also capable of playing at centre-back and left-back in a back four and has occasionally appeared at wing-back.

He was handed his first caps for the senior Italy national team earlier this month under the reign of interim head coach Silvio Baldini, who took a squad almost entirely made up of players he knows from his usual role in charge of the U21s for a pair of friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.
