Chelsea travel to meet Atalanta in the Champions League tonight.

The Blues recently suffered a calamitous 3-1 defeat at Leeds in the Premier League, which was followed by a disappointing 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.

The weekend before that, they clung on to a 1-1 stalemate with league leaders Arsenal having survived much of the match with 10 men, after Moises Caicedo saw red.

Now, their attentions turn back to the Champions League, where their fortunes have been far better.

Last time out, Enzo Maresca’s side played out of their skins to thrash Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, as Estevao Willian announced himself on the big stage.

Tonight, they take on an Atalanta side that currently sit 12th in Serie A.

Raffaele Palladino’s men have been riddled with inconsistency this term, but that does not stretch to continental competition, with the Italians winning three of their five Champions League games so far.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Atalanta vs Chelsea is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off tonight on Tuesday December 9, 2025.

The match will take place at the Stadio di Bergamo in Italy.

Atalanta vs Chelsea team news

For Chelsea, Moises Caicedo will be available despite his red card against Arsenal. His three-match suspension, of which he has served two so far, is only for domestic action.

However, Cole Palmer missed training on Monday and has not made the trip to Italy as his return is carefully managed following groin and toe injuries. He is expected to play against Everton at the weekend.

Liam Delap was forced off against Bournemouth with a shoulder injury and is facing another spell out, while Romeo Lavia is also still sidelined along with Dario Essugo and Levi Colwill. Reece James and Wesley Fofana are available.

As for Atalanta, they have two injury concerns.

The first is former Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who is sidelined with a muscular niggle, while left-back Mitchel Bakker is out long-term with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.

Atalanta vs Chelsea prediction

This is a tricky one to call with Atalanta being at home and Chelsea out of form.

You would think that the world champions would have enough star quality to earn all three points here, but the Serie A outfit are a tough nut to crack, and have some good players on their books that can hurt the Blues.

That said, the west Londoners should get the job done to strengthen their hold on an automatic qualification spot for the knockout stages.

Draw, 2-2.
