Athletic election campaign begins, caretaker board to take charge | OneFootball

Athletic’s electoral process began on 29 March in Bilbao, with Jon Uriarte’s board standing down in a procedural step and a caretaker board to take charge until the 8 May vote at San Mamés.

If Uriarte is the only candidate, as seems likely, he would be re-elected on 23 April. According to as.com, four years ago there was a three-way ballot involving Barkala and Aretxabaleta.

To become an official candidate, 5% of members’ signatures are required, 2,070 from 41,387 with voting rights, plus the necessary financial guarantees. The 2022 Statutes allow eligible members to back up to two slates, in person or online.

The window to submit candidacies opens on Thursday 9 April and closes on Saturday 18 at 18:00. During this period, candidacies must be formalised, with scope to add members and alter assigned roles.

Before 18:00 on Thursday 23 April, the caretaker board will declare the valid candidacies. Voting will be possible in person, by post or online via a platform set up by the club in Ibaigane.
