Athletic Club has also rejected the Liga F partnership with Gasol16 Ventures, days after clubs approved it by a reinforced two-thirds vote at an extraordinary assembly.

Real Madrid has already stepped away, and said in a statement that a quarter of the 16-team competition had taken the same decision not to participate. It outlined private financing in exchange for 35-49 percent of future commercial revenues until June 2051. Participating clubs would receive €40m collectively, Liga F €12m and €3m would go to certain players’ image rights, with adherent clubs forgoing a percentage of income for 25 years.

The agreement totals €55m across four seasons, the largest private investment received by a women’s football league and among the most significant in women’s professional sport worldwide.

Liga F president Beatriz Álvarez said the alliance ushers in a new phase after support from public institutions and the RFEF, with funds aimed at matchday operations, sporting performance, commercial activity, infrastructure, club structures and human resources.

Madrid argued the pact does not fit a model based on sustainability, transparency and full club autonomy.

Barcelona and Deportivo voted in favour, viewing it as a strategic opportunity to drive growth, professionalisation and international reach. However, a yes vote does not mean immediate adhesion, Barcelona will decide after a detailed review of the terms and implications.
