Athletico’s cancelled flight delays trip to face Corinthians | OneFootball

Athletico encountered travel problems on Wednesday afternoon as their initial flight to São Paulo was cancelled and the replacement delayed before the Corinthians match in the Brasileirão’s 21st round.

TMC reports that the first flight, bound for Guarulhos around 15:00, was cancelled amid bad weather in Curitiba, where rain and strong winds persisted since morning.

The squad were moved to a Congonhas service scheduled for around 16:00, which was also delayed due to showers in São Paulo. The new departure left Curitiba at about 17:30, with arrival expected at 18:30.

On landing, Athletico will head into camp for the game. Two starters, Esquivel and Luiz Gustavo, remained in Curitiba, rested with the Copa do Brasil next week.

Centre-back Arthur Dias returns and is expected to start, while midfielders Zapelli and Felipinhos are back from injury.

Corinthians host Athletico on Thursday at 19:30 at Neo Química Arena.
