Atlético Madrid ‘open talks’ for João Gomes as Wolverhampton set £40 million price | OneFootball

According to Coluna Do Fla, Atlético Madrid have opened talks with Wolverhampton over João Gomes, though no formal bid has been made. Wolverhampton are seeking £40 million, R$ 272 million at current rates, for the former Flamengo midfielder.

The Spanish club have also held discussions for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, but an impasse with Atalanta has led them to advance for João Gomes instead. Discussions are expected to pick up in the coming weeks as the European season reaches its final stretch.

Wolverhampton were relegated to the second tier this week after West Ham’s draw. The club have begun planning for next season and have placed João Gomes on the market, alongside André, formerly of Fluminense.

João Gomes is attracting wider interest across Europe. Manchester United are viewed as the main rival, with Tottenham and Napoli also monitoring him, although there have been no proposals so far.

Flamengo, João Gomes’s former club, remain focused on their schedule. They visit Atlético-MG on Sunday 26, at 20:30 Brasília time, in the 13th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
