Atletico Madrid hosts Celta Vigo at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday in a La Liga fixture.
Following a frustrating defeat to Arsenal in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final, Atletico now turn their attention back to domestic action as they chase third place in the league standings.
Atlético head into matchday 35 in good league form, having won their last two La Liga games, including a 2-0 win over Valencia.
They currently sit fourth with 63 points and have already confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League. Despite their recent 1-0 loss to Arsenal in Europe, their home performances have been strong, with 14 wins from 17 league matches at the Metropolitano this season.
Diego Simeone has several injury concerns to deal with. Key forward Julián Álvarez is unavailable after worsening an ankle injury during the Arsenal match.
The midfield is also weakened, as Johnny Cardoso is out for the rest of the season with a serious ankle injury, while Pablo Barrios and Nicolás González are still recovering from thigh problems.
Giuliano Simeone is also a doubt for this game. As a result, Alexander Sørloth is expected to lead the attack, with Obed Vargas and Koke likely to feature in midfield.
Despite these absences, Atlético will be aiming to pick up all three points to strengthen their position in the league.
Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Musso; Pubill, Le Normand, Lenglet, Molina, Julio Díaz; Mendoza, Koke, Vargas, Almada; Sorloth
The match will kick off at 5:30pm BST on Saturday, 9th May.
