Atletico Madrid are set to host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Both clubs will be aiming to build momentum after their respective opening fixtures in this season’s top European tournament.
The hosts are coming fresh off a resounding 5-2 triumph over Real Madrid in the recent derby. Julian Alvarez dazzled with a brace, one an exquisite free kick that moved coach Diego Simeone to tears.
The dynamic forward enters this continental clash riding a remarkable run, having netted five goals across his previous four days of action.
Simeone must contend with a few absentees for this upcoming duel. Jose Maria Gimenez is still sidelined by a muscle injury and won’t be expected back before early October. Johnny Cardoso is currently nursing an ankle concern, and Thiago Almada remains unavailable as he recovers from a muscle issue. None of this trio is likely to return in time for Tuesday’s match, though their comebacks are looming in the weeks ahead.
Adding to Atletico’s attacking options, Alexander Sorloth is available as well. The Norwegian striker could feature alongside Alvarez up front, although recent goal heroics from Antoine Griezmann might give him an edge in Simeone’s plans for the starting lineup.
Possible Atletico Madrid Predicted XI: Oblak; Hancko, Lenglet, Le Normand, Llorente; Gonzalez, Koke, Barrios, Simeone; Alvarez, Sorloth
The game commences at 8pm BST on Tuesday, 30th September.
Supporters in the UK can catch all the action live via TNT Sports 5.
