Diego Simeone’s side are, however, a difficult proposition at the Metropolitano, having suffered just one league defeat at home this season.

Atletico Madrid vs Getafe – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Saturday, 14th March
  • Kick-off: 3:15pm BST
  • Venue: Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Madrid
  • Referee: Miguel Angel Ortíz Arias
  • Last meeting: Getafe 0-1 Atlético Madrid, La Liga, 23rd November 2025

Atletico Madrid team news

Pablo Barrios is a doubt after sustaining a hamstring problem that has limited his involvement in recent weeks.

Rodrigo Mendoza remains sidelined with an ankle injury and is not expected back until April, reducing Simeone’s options for rotation in the engine room.

Marcos Llorente is another player who is doubtful for this match after Richarlison stood on his ankle in the Champions League in midweek. Though he has rejoined team training, he remains questionable to feature.

Julian Alvarez, who scored a brace in the recent match against Tottenham, is expected to be rested ahead of the second leg. Alexander Sorloth is set to start.

Getafe team news

Abu Kamara, Juanmi, Borja Mayoral and Davinchi are all doubtful for this match and most likely to sit this one out.

Adrian Liso is once again available after serving his suspension. Luis Vazquez is again ready to lead the line.

Martin Satriano will be looking to add to his tally as well after his recent impressive performances. He scored three times in his last four matches.

Mauro Arambarri, the midfielder from Uruguay, who leads the goalscoring chart for Getafe this season with five goals in the league, will once again look to play an important role for his team.

Form

Atletico Madrid: WWLWW

Atletico come into the weekend inside the top three with 54 points and a record of 16 wins, 6 draws and 5 defeats in La Liga, and a goal difference of +21 after scoring 46 and conceding 25.

Simeone’s men have turned the Metropolitano into a fortress once again, and their home record is a major reason they sit third, with only Barcelona above them at home in the table heading into matchday 28. They only lost once in their last seven matches and come to this match after a convincing 5-2 win against Tottenham in the Champions League round of 16.

Getafe: WWLWW

Sitting ninth in La Liga with 35 points from 27 matches, Getafe have also won four and lost one of their last five games. They followed up their surprise win at Real Madrid with a 2-0 victory over Real Betis.

Predicted lineups

Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Molina, Gimenez, Lenglet, Diaz; Koke, Simeone; Gonzalez, Almada, Baena; Sorloth

Getafe: Soria; Abqar, Duarte, Romero; Femenia, Dakonam, Milla, Arambarri, Iglesias; Vazquez, Satriano
