Inter Milan boss Cristian Chivu will stick with Yann Sommer as the starting goalkeeper in tonight’s clash against Atletico Madrid.
Speaking to Prime Video via FCInter1908, Chivu reiterated his belief in the Swiss veteran.
Yann Sommer has come under fire following his underwhelming performance in Sunday’s Milan derby.
Furthermore, it wasn’t the first time the 36-year-old let the Nerazzurri down this season.
Indeed, his disastrous showing in September’s Derby d’Italia culminated in Inter’s dismal 4-3 defeat at the hands of Juventus.
However, the former Bayern Munich star has been in sublime form in the Champions League.
Sommer has only conceded once in four European appearances this term.
Therefore, Cristian Chivu is reluctant to remove the experienced shot-stopper from the starting lineup this evening.
Meanwhile, Josep Martinez could return between the sticks in Inter’s upcoming Serie A match against Pisa.

With Inter expected to sever ties with Sommer at the end of the season, the club is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper.
Moreover, the Nerazzurri are reportedly plotting an audacious swoop for AC Milan captain Mike Maignan.
In the meantime, Chivu will continue to rely on Sommer, trusting the veteran to lead from the back.
“I have confidence in all 22 players at my disposal, plus the three goalkeepers,” Chivu said.
“I also trust Martinez, but for me, Sommer is currently the team’s number one goalkeeper.
“Depending on the matches and how I see them during the week, everyone sooner or later has had the chance to play.”
Meanwhile, Chivu praised Andy Diouf for his decent cameo appearance in the Milan derby.
“Diouf deserves my praise,” he added. “He played the last portion of the game against Milan, and I liked what I saw.
“Having a left-footed player on the right who had the courage to go one-on-one caused them some problems.
