Augsburg shocked Bayern Munich on Matchday 19 to inflict a first Bundesliga defeat on Germany’s record champions, ending their 27-match unbeaten streak.
Speaking after their 2-1 defeat against neighbouring Augsburg, who staged a stunning second half comeback, Vincent Kompany wasn’t too worried about the result but with games coming thick and fast, expects a reaction against PSV before Bundesliga games against Hamburg and Hoffenheim.
“We’ve had many, many wins here and often had reason to celebrate, but now we’ve lost, and we need to accept that,” said Kompany.
“The hunger is always there; that’s not the problem. Sometimes the performance on the day just isn’t there.
“People often say that the Bundesliga is easy, but we know from our own experience that it isn’t. We shouldn’t question everything now – we just need to accept that today wasn’t our day.
“However, what we say here isn’t decisive; what matters is our reaction on the pitch. That’s no guarantee, but we know what we have to do.”
It’s a case of déjà vu between the two clubs as, back in 2014, Augsburg ended Bayern’s 53-match unbeaten run – on Saturday, it was certainly a case of history repeating itself.
