Augusto Melo expelled from Corinthians association after vote at Parque São Jorge | OneFootball

Corinthians’ Deliberative Council voted on Monday night to expel former president Augusto Melo from the club’s association at Parque São Jorge.

According to Meu Timao, 147 of 156 councillors backed expulsion, five opposed and four abstained.

Defence lawyer Ricardo Jorge tried to void the sitting, but council president Leonardo Pantaleão let proceedings continue.

The case centres on 31 May 2025, when first secretary Maria Ângela de Sousa Ocampos tried to overturn the impeachment vote launched by then council president Romeu Tuma Júnior. After declaring herself president and entering the council room, Melo was found to have committed a grave statutory breach and the committee recommended expulsion. He had already been removed from office in August 2025.

Melo is also a defendant in São Paulo in the VaideBet affair, accused of money laundering, criminal association and aggravated theft. Police traced intermediary payments, said to involve a front company linked to the PCC, and the contract set a 7% share of about R$ 25 million for intermediary Alex Cassundé, with two R$ 700,000 instalments paid.

Last week, former president Andrés Sanchez was expelled over alleged misuse of a corporate card for personal expenses of about R$ 480,000 during 2018-2021.

Four allies of Melo were also due to be heard, but Maria Ângela secured a postponement citing a family health issue. A further meeting is scheduled for Monday 8 June to judge eight councillors, and Pantaleão said it could continue or conclude unfinished matters, with Maria Ângela’s case likely addressed early.
