Away win puts Corinthians in the race for top spots in the Brasileirão

Corinthians faced Athletico-PR on the night of Thursday (19th) at Arena da Baixada, in a postponed match of the second round of the 2026 Brazilian Championship, and ended up winning 1-0. The Corinthians' goal was scored by midfielder Rodrigo Garro, at 21 minutes of the first half, when he picked up the rebound at the edge and shot into the top corner of goalkeeper Santos.

The victory allowed Corinthians, who had one game less compared to other teams, to jump from 12th to fifth place in the national competition, with six points out of a possible nine, having scored four goals and conceded only two. At this moment, the leader of the tournament is archrival Palmeiras, with seven points, as well as São Paulo, Fluminense, and Bahia.

Teams like Athletico-PR and Red Bull Bragantino also have six points, just like the club from Parque São Jorge, but they are at a disadvantage in goal difference. The team from Paraná has a positive balance of one (three goals scored and two conceded), while Massa Bruta is even in this aspect (two scored and conceded).

Corinthians will return to the field for the Brasileirão only next Wednesday (25th) at 8 PM (Brasília time), when they will visit Cruzeiro at Mineirão Stadium for the fourth round of the Brazilian Championship. Before that, however, the Corinthians team has a decision in the Paulista Championship. Next Sunday (22nd), the Alvinegro visits Portuguesa at 8:30 PM at Canindé for the state quarterfinals.
