Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, could be named Benemérito of the State of Rio de Janeiro after a proposal from deputy Guilherme Delaroli, who currently leads the state assembly.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the proposal, published in the Diário Oficial, argues that Bap’s work reaches beyond football, strengthening Rio’s image, and notes titles under his leadership including the Campeonato Carioca, the Brasileiro and the Libertadores.
Delaroli contends that Bap’s responsible management sets a positive example for other clubs and football bodies, and that Flamengo’s success brings cultural and economic gains for the city and state.
The assembly is expected to vote soon on the honour. If approved, Bap would receive the title, with the outcome dependent on consensus among deputies.
In November 2025, the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District granted him the title of Honorary Citizen of Brasília, recognising a national business career and the club’s economic and social contributions, notably the partnership with Banco de Brasília and matches at Estádio Mané Garrincha.
Elected in 2024, he had held strategic roles at the club since 2009, contributing to administrative and financial restructuring and helping to entrench a professional management model.
