Paris Saint-Germain have made it two Champions League wins from as many matches by beating Barcelona 2-1 in Wednesday’s heavyweight meeting at Estadio Olímpico Lluis Companys.

The Ligue 1 champions had significant injury concerns to navigate with up to five first-teamers missing after Joao Neves pulled out just before kickoff.

Lamine Yamal lit up the opening exchanges of the game with a mazy run before playing in Ferran Torres, whose effort was blocked.

Paris Saint-Germain had their first attempt of the game in the 12th minute via a corner as Illia Zabarnyi got on the end of a Nuno Mendes delivery, but was unable to keep his effort down.

Yamal teed up Torres for the second time in 12 minutes courtesy of a lovely outside-of-the-foot pass, and after the Spaniard rounded Lucas Chevalier, his goal-bound effort was blocked by a recovering Zabarnyi.

Barcelona continued to pile on the early pressure, which was rewarded with the game’s opening goal in the 19th minute.

A Vitinha misplaced pass in the middle of the park was seized upon by Yamal to release Pedri, who found Marcus Rashford, and the Englishman’s first-time ball into the box was slid home by Torres.

The hosts refused to rest on their laurels after taking the lead as they continued to attack with urgency.

PSG’s immediate task was to avoid going further behind, but the Ligue 1 champions continued to retain a threat on the counter.

Skippering the side in the absence of Marquinhos, Achraf Hakimi came within inches of levelling the scores from a free-kick attempt, but Wojciech Szczesny was able to tip the ball away for a corner.

Les Parisiens started to grow into the contest as the first half wound down and restored parity seven minutes from the interval through Senny Mayulu after some lovely work from Nuno Mendes.

The equaliser ushered in a swing in momentum with PSG coming close to taking the lead shortly afterwards as Bradley Barcola sent an effort sailing over the bar from point-blank range.

That was the first half’s final moment of note, and both teams headed into the interval with all still to play for.

Picking up where they left off before half time, Luis Enrique’s side began the second period on the front foot and drew two saves from Szczesny inside the first five minutes with Ibrahim Mbaye and Barcola knocking on the door.

Down the other end, Barcelona should have taken the lead just past the hour mark when Dani Olmo spurned a glorious opportunity from inside the box.

Having cut a peripheral figure in the second half in stark contrast to his first-half display, Yamal tried to conjure up a moment of brilliance 10 minutes from time, only for his curled effort to sail well wide of Chevalier’s goal.

Brought on as a substitute for the final seven minutes, Lee Kang-in hit the post after a display of quick feet in the box.

The away side continued to look the likelier of the two teams to score the next goal and would have taken the lead in the 86th minute but for a fine save from Szczesny to keep out Mendes’ header.

With the game heading into three minutes of stoppage time, PSG were evidently not satisfied with a point.

Their continuous push yielded a late winner in the final minute of regulation time when substitute Goncalo Ramos kept his composure from close range to guide the ball home, having been found by Hakimi.

Barcelona had no time to muster a response and saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end.
