Barcelona have withdrawn from the European Super League project, and have notified the European Super League Company and the clubs involved. The club said in a statement that the decision was communicated on Saturday.
The move leaves Real Madrid, championed by president Florentino Pérez, as the lone heavyweight still backing the plan.
The announcement follows a ruling months earlier by the Madrid Court of Appeal, which confirmed that UEFA had abused its dominant position when it tried to block the rival competition to the Champions League in 2021.
Many clubs quit under pressure at the time, but not Barcelona or Real Madrid. Madrid now finds itself alone in a battle it considers essential to save European football.
Barcelona and A22 Sports Management decided in late October 2025 to seek more than four billion euros in damages from UEFA.
UEFA maintains that the scope of that appeal judgment is uncertain, saying it addressed rules in place in 2021 that were amended the following year.
