Spina has caught the eye with his performances for Atletico Madrid’s reserve team. However, he has still not made a senior appearance for the Madrid club.

The 20-year-old is currently among the best young defenders in Spanish football. Therefore, Barcelona would do well to lure him to the Nou Camp in this transfer period.

Spina is under contract at the Madrid club until the summer of 2027, which could make it difficult for the Catalan club to land him on the cheap this off-season.

Spina is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can play his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.87m, the Argentine whizkid is a strong presence in the air and can win his fair share of 50-50 aerial duels inside his half. However, he is still quite raw and would need time before he is ready to be a regular starter in top-flight football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing a defender of his potential.

We can expect Spina to enhance the quality of Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s defence in the long run. He has the potential to be a success story at the Nou Camp as long as he continues to improve with each season.
