FC Barcelona’s internal restructuring has now reached the first-team nutrition department, with Silvia Tremoleda stepping away after five years in the role.
The change comes shortly after several movements within the physical preparation staff, underlining how deeply the club are reshaping the support structure around Hansi Flick’s squad ahead of the new season.
Unlike some of the recent departures, however, Tremoleda’s exit is not understood to be a sporting decision imposed by the club. She has chosen to leave the first-team setup for personal reasons.
According to AS, Mireia Porta Oliva, who has been responsible for nutrition within Barcelona’s women’s football structure, will now take over the role with the men’s first team.
That decision is significant because it shows the club are willing to trust professionals already working successfully inside their own structure rather than immediately looking outside.
Nutrition has become a central part of elite football preparation, especially in a squad dealing with a heavy calendar, frequent travel, and several players returning from long international tournaments.
For Flick, continuity in that area matters. Training intensity, recovery, and injury prevention are all linked to how well players are managed away from the pitch, and the nutrition department plays an important role in that process.
Porta Oliva will not be the only professional moving across from the women’s section. Physical coach Lucas del Campo, a specialist in strength and conditioning, is also joining the men’s first-team staff.
The physical department will now be led by Benjamin Kugel following the departure of Julio Tous. Pepe Conde, Milos Mallol, and Andres Martin remain, while Del Campo is added to the group.
Tous, Rafa Maldonado, and German Fernandez will continue inside the club in different roles, with Tous taking charge of a new performance and physical optimisation area and the other two moving to the reserve team.
From a Barcelona perspective, these changes are less visible than a signing, but they can be just as important over a long season.
Flick’s football demands intensity, availability, and strong recovery habits. If Barcelona want to compete on every front, the staff behind the squad must be as well organised as the players on the pitch.
Tremoleda leaves after five years of service, while Porta Oliva now receives a major opportunity to help shape the daily standards of the first team.
It remains to be seen how she goes about it.
