Barcelona have been silently working towards several youth acquisitions in recent days, but the name of Patricio Pacifico appears to have been discussed with utmost secrecy.

It was only less than 24 hours ago that the young Uruguayan defender’s name first appeared prominently in the Spanish media, and Barcelona had already seemingly made significant inroads towards his signing.

Now, Mundo Deportivo bring to light that sources close to Defensor Sporting, the youngster’s current club, confirm his departure to Barcelona as an almost done deal.

The details of the move

As relayed by the Spanish outlet through exclusive information directly obtained from the Uruguayan club’s close circle, Pacifico will sign for Barça Atletic imminently. The move will be a loan transfer until the end of the season.

At the end of the aforementioned loan, Barcelona will have a clause to purchase 50% of the player’s rights for a decent fee with future clauses and options to secure the remaining half of his rights.

SPORT further bring to light that the value of the purchase clause will be set at close to €2 million to €2.5 million which will become mandatory if the teenager plays ten games for the club.

Barcelona are confident of hitting that mark, and the player will thereafter sign a permanent deal for 3.5 years. As it stands, the deal could go through in the coming hours.

A left-back by trade, Pacifico is tall, physically dominant, and technically gifted – a rare combination to find in the up-and-coming generation of defenders.

He will initially join the subsidiary team and help Barça Atletico until the end of the season. A decision over his promotion, needless to say, will eventually be made based on his performance.

Also alongside the arrival of Pacifico, Deco and Co. are working on the signings of Hamza Abdelkarim, Ajay Tavares, and Juwensley Onstein – all of whom are young talents being sought after by the club for the B team.
