Barcelona maintained their supremacy at the top of the table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mallorca.
Although the scoreline might suggest otherwise, the Catalans did not exactly have a hard time dominating Mallorca.
However, the opposition’s defensive resilience, coupled with a lack of end product, meant that Barça could only score one goal despite total dominance.
To put things into perspective, Barcelona attempted as many as 40 shots on goal against Mallorca, who managed only four in response.
Thanks to this, Barça have now equalled a La Liga record of most shots attempted at goal, which, until now, was held by Real Madrid alone.
According to Opta, this is the highest number of shots attempted at goal since at least the 2003/04 season. In 2011, Real Madrid attempted 40 shots on goal against Zaragoza.

Apart from the 40 attempts on goal, Barcelona also had 13 shots on target compared to Mallorca’s zero.
Moreover, the Catalans mustered an xG tally of a whopping 3.41, which is quite high considering the fact that Barcelona were able to score only one goal.
Much of the credit should be given to Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman, who made 12 saves on the night, most by a goalkeeper in a single La Liga match this season.
Barcelona midfielder Gavi even applauded Roman’s performance after the game, although he was happy that his team was able to score at least one goal and secure all three points.
