As of today, FC Barcelona have officially added another player to their squad as Oriol Romeu is once again a Blaugrana, following the conclusion of the one-year loan deal he signed with Girona.
The 33-year-old veteran returns after spending the season at Estadi Montilivi with his future needing resolution.
Romeu has one year remaining on his contract with Barcelona and as per SPORT, it is unlikely that he will be part of the squad for the 2025/26 season. Both the player and the club intend to resolve his contractual situation before the start of pre-season.
Barcelona will return to training on 13 July, and Romeu is not expected to be a part of the squad on that date.
The midfielder understands that he does not have a place in Hansi Flick’s plans, and the club will facilitate his departure to another team.

As such, a swift termination of his contract is expected, as all parties share the same interest in reaching a solution.
As per the report, Girona remain the best-positioned club to secure his services once again.
At 33 years of age, Romeu wants to continue enjoying his football, and Montilivi appears to be the ideal setting. Under Michel’s guidance, he delivered his best performances, which earned him a return to Barcelona and a season under Xavi Hernandez.
Romeu was signed as a replacement for Sergio Busquets but did not enjoy much success, with injuries also affecting his progress.
The player himself requested to return to Girona last season, which he did after participating in early training sessions under Flick and travelling to the United States, from where he returned ahead of schedule.
Now, with his contract likely to be terminated soon, another stint at Girona seems likely.
