Barcelona eye surprise return of former academy star in the summer – report | OneFootball

Barcelona could be preparing for a surprising move in the upcoming transfer window, as the club reportedly considers bringing back former academy talent Xavi Simons.

According to recent reports from Fichajes, the Dutch attacking midfielder has become an interesting option for Barcelona given the current situation. 

Simons is currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur, but his situation in England has become increasingly uncertain.

The 22-year-old joined Tottenham last summer after a high-profile move from RB Leipzig in a deal worth around €65 million. 

At the time, the transfer was seen as a major step forward in his career. However, things have not gone entirely according to plan since arriving in London.

On the brink of relegation

Tottenham’s difficult season has created uncertainty around the club’s immediate future. 

If the team were to suffer relegation, their entire sporting project would likely change, forcing several players to reconsider their positions. 

This situation has naturally attracted attention from other clubs across Europe.

Simons is one of the players whose future could be affected the most. Reports from England suggest that the Dutch midfielder is not interested in playing in the second division if Tottenham were to drop down. 

Because of this, the player is believed to have already started discussing possible options with his representatives in case the situation becomes more complicated.

Barcelona emerge again

In this context, Barcelona have emerged as a potential destination. 

The Catalan club knows the player very well, as Simons spent several years developing in the famous La Masia academy before leaving.

Another factor that makes the potential move interesting is the financial aspect. 

Despite Tottenham paying around €65 million for the player only months ago, a difficult situation at the club could significantly lower his market value.

Some reports suggest that a deal could be possible for around €40 million if Tottenham are forced into a difficult position. 

For Barcelona, that could represent a valuable market opportunity to bring back a player who once developed within their own system.
