FC Barcelona’s search for elite young talent has led them to one of the breakout stars of the 2026 World Cup, but landing Ayyoub Bouaddi will be anything but straightforward.
The 18-year-old Lille midfielder has enjoyed an outstanding tournament with Morocco, and his performances have pushed him firmly onto the radar of Europe’s biggest clubs.
His blend of technical quality, maturity, and composure has turned him into one of the most sought-after youngsters in the market.
According to AS, Barcelona are among several clubs closely following Bouaddi’s development. Premier League giants, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid are also monitoring the teenager, while Lille have no intention of making negotiations easy.
The French club have reportedly valued Bouaddi at around €80 million, a figure that reflects both his enormous potential and the growing interest from across Europe.
Lille are under no pressure to sell. Bouaddi only signed a new contract until 2029 last December, giving the Ligue 1 side complete control over any negotiations.
That makes Barcelona’s task extremely complicated. Even if the club admire the midfielder, matching an €80 million valuation would represent a major financial commitment at a time when Barca continue to prioritise sustainable squad building.
The report also suggests Lille could decide to keep Bouaddi for another season. With Champions League football awaiting next year, the French club may believe another strong campaign would increase his market value even further.
From Barcelona’s perspective, patience may be the smartest approach. Deco has consistently looked to recruit young players with high ceilings, but the club have also become far more disciplined when it comes to transfer fees.
Bouaddi undoubtedly fits the sporting profile. He is technically gifted, comfortable under pressure, and already looks capable of competing at the highest level despite his age.
The question is whether the finances will ever make sense. Barcelona are unlikely to enter a bidding war against several Premier League clubs, especially for a player whose price has already reached elite levels.
For now, the Blaugrana remain in the race, but this is one transfer saga where admiration alone may not be enough. Unless Lille soften their demands or the market shifts significantly, Bouaddi could prove to be one of the hardest young talents in Europe to sign this summer.
