Earlier in the week, reports emerged claiming that Manchester United manager Michael Carrick wanted to bring Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at FC Barcelona, back to the club.

The 44-year-old tactician, who is only in charge of the Red Devils until the end of the season, wishes to reintegrate the attacker, in case he is handed the job full-time.

This was seen as a possible cause of concern for Barcelona, who want to keep Rashford beyond the ongoing campaign, and have a €30 million purchase clause to make the transfer permanent.

No worries for Barcelona

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are not concerned about Rashford’s future should they ultimately decide to retain the winger. In negotiations with Manchester United, the Barcelona club secured absolute priority over the player.

The €30 million purchase option included in the agreement takes precedence over any desire from the English club to bring him back.

If Barcelona choose to activate the clause and pay the full amount, Manchester United would have no room to intervene. A different scenario would only arise if Barcelona sought to renegotiate that figure.

The England international had been sidelined at Old Trafford when Ruben Amorim was in charge. But with the Portuguese manager getting sacked and Carrick taking over, there has been a change of heart, especially given Rashford’s impressive numbers for Barcelona.

The problem is that the 44-year-old’s current contract runs only until June 30, although there is a growing sentiment around United to hand him the job full-time after his positive start.

Should that happen, Carrick wishes to reunite with his former teammate and reintegrate Rashford, who has a contract until 2028, into his project. But it will not matter if Barcelona decide to pay the full €30 million fee agreed with Manchester United.

Moreover, Rashford himself remains detached from this debate. Although he is not an undisputed starter, the Englishman feels very comfortable and happy in the Barcelona dressing room.

His numbers underline that impact: he has recorded nine goals and 12 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions.
