FC Barcelona are often associated with beautiful football. Tiki-taka, possession, passing, movement and plenty of goals are often what the Catalan club are synonymous with, and this Hansi Flick team embodies many of those principles.

However, the team are not going to be able to play sparkling football every three days, and that is exactly why this recent stretch matters. One of the clearest signs of a serious team is the ability to win when the performance is messy, and Hansi Flick’s Barca are starting to show that side of themselves more often in 2026.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano was just the latest example of Barca getting the result even when the football did not fully flow. Joan Garcia’s four major saves were central to the win, and Rayo looked especially dangerous in the second half, even taking more corners than Barcelona.

Flick admitted it himself after the match, saying the three points were what mattered most and that it had not been Barca’s best day. There was another similar win at San Mames. Against Athletic Club, Barcelona ground out a 1-0 victory in a physically draining game, with both sides looking short on energy and Lamine Yamal making the difference.

The trend continues if you go further back to the 2-0 win against Espanyol. The Catalan club hit the target more often and created the better chances, but Barca took their moments and Joan Garcia again proved decisive.

While the beautiful games are enjoyable to watch, it is these kinds of matches that differentiate a very good team from a great one. The ability to come out on top even when your back is against the wall is invaluable, and let us hope Flick’s team can keep finding a way in the coming months.
