As already reported, FC Barcelona are currently working towards playing a friendly match in Peru on December 22 – a game that could generate between €7 and €8 million in revenue for the club.

However, the logistical puzzle to go ahead with the match is proving to be a challenge for the Blaugrana.

Barcelona in touch with La Liga, AFE over Peru friendly

As such, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have asked La Liga to play in Villarreal on December 20 and are in talks with the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) regarding players’ holiday schedules.

The Blaugrana are eager to accept the proposal for the friendly in Peru, but must balance the scheduling of this exhibition match with the players’ Christmas break.

Their final La Liga fixture before the holidays will be away to Villarreal – the game that was originally planned for Miami on Saturday, December 20, but will now take place at La Ceramica.

Barça have requested La Liga to keep that date in order to then travel directly to Peru to face a selection of players from the Peruvian league at the Estadio Monumental.

However, for both La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to approve the December 20 fixture, they must first receive the official offer from the Peruvian promoter, ensuring Barça’s request is formally supported.

Additionally, the club must ensure the players’ holiday period complies with AFE’s minimum rest requirements.

This is a delicate balance, as Barça are scheduled to play against Espanyol on January 3 or 4, meaning the team would need to resume training at least five or six days prior.

Barcelona’s priority is to play the friendly in December due to the significant financial benefit, but if the scheduling cannot be reconciled, the club will aim to secure the agreement with the commitment to play the match at a later date.
