Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is the latest player to join the club’s growing injury list ahead of key matches against Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Head coach Hansi Flick is already sweating over the fitness of some of his most important players during the international break, with both Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo leaving the Spain camp early with issues.
Gavi, Andre Ter Stegen and Joan Garcia are also on the treatment table, although there was some positive news this week after it was reported that Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Torres could return to action soon.
Barça hope the trio will be available for El Classico, but Lewandowski will miss the clash in Madrid after the club confirmed he tore his biceps during Poland’s 2-0 win over Lithuania on Sunday.
“Robert Lewandowski has suffered a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his left thigh. His recovery time will depend on how the injury evolves,” read a club statement.
The injury is expected to keep the centre-forward sidelined for at least a month, if not longer, meaning he will definitely miss games against Girona, Olympiacos, Real Madrid, Elche, Club Brugge and Celta Vigo.
It’s also possible the 37-year-old will not regain full fitness in time to face Athletic Club in LaLiga or Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League when Barcelona travel to Stamford Bridge on 25 November.
Lewandowski has only started four games in all competitions this season after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-season, which ruled him out of the season opener against RCD Mallorca.
Meanwhile, reports in Spain claim that Barcelona do not intend on extending the player’s contract when it expires next summer. He has registered 105 goals and 20 assists in all competitions since joining La Blaugrana from Bayern Munich in 2022.
