Alejandro Grimaldo’s name is once again attracting serious attention in Spanish football, and this time the noise appears louder than ever.

Journalist Matteo Moretto has confirmed through MARCA that the Spanish full-back is firmly on Barcelona’s radar, although Bayern Munich also appear to be entering the race for the Spaniard.

According to Moretto, interest is also emerging from abroad, explaining that “there’s a club in Germany that’s sounding him out… It’s Bayern Munich.”

However, he made it equally clear that Grimaldo himself “would prioritise returning to Spain” if a decisive moment arrives.

Barcelona have the edge

For Barcelona, this development comes at a delicate time. The club is closely watching Alejandro Balde’s performances this season, and while his potential is not in question, the coaching staff are not fully convinced by his level in recent months.

Moretto added that Barcelona “is monitoring his [Grimaldo’s] situation,” yet no formal approach has been made.

At the same time, Bayer Leverkusen are well aware of the interest surrounding their star full-back.

In fact, the Bundesliga club “wouldn’t like one of their best players to go to Bayern Munich,” which naturally shifts the focus toward a possible return to La Liga.

Crucially, the relationship between Leverkusen and the player is described as extremely healthy.

Moretto revealed that “If Grimaldo ever knocks on the door and says he wants to return to Spain, neither side will stand in the way of that transfer.”

This is a significant detail, especially for Barcelona, who find themselves in an uncomfortable position regarding squad depth at left-back.

Barcelona need a left-back

Beyond Balde, Barcelona lack a dependable alternative in the position.

Gerard Martin has shown promise and delivered solid performances when called upon, but he has not yet displayed the long-term competitiveness required to genuinely challenge Balde for the starting spot.

As a result, the club has intensified their search for a natural left-back who can offer immediate reliability, tactical maturity and real competition.

Grimaldo fits that profile perfectly, as he is experienced, consistent, intelligent, and already adapted to top-level European football.
