Barcelona are reassessing their attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window, and one familiar name has re-entered the conversation – Jan Virgili.
The former Barcelona winger, who joined Mallorca last summer for a fee of around €4 million, is once again on the club’s radar.
However, according to SPORT, despite recent speculation, there has been no concrete movement towards a return at this stage.
It must be remembered that when Barcelona sold Virgili, they retained 40% of any future transfer fee along with a right of first refusal.
With the player’s release clause currently set at around €30 million, this structure could allow Barça to secure his return at a significantly reduced effective cost compared to other options on the market.
Internally, the club is exploring multiple attacking scenarios, largely influenced by the uncertain situation surrounding Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona are keen to retain the forward, but financial constraints continue to complicate negotiations.

The proposed €30 million investment required for Rashford is seen as substantial, particularly given the club’s other priorities.
As a result, more cost-effective alternatives are being evaluated, and Virgili fits that profile.
From a financial perspective, a deal in the region of €12–15 million would represent strong value in an inflated transfer market.
However, despite these advantages, reports indicate that Barcelona have not yet taken any formal steps.
There have been no discussions with the player’s representatives or with Mallorca, suggesting that the interest remains exploratory rather than advanced.
Beyond finances, the club’s transfer priorities also play a decisive role, as they are expected to focus the majority of their resources on reinforcing key areas, notably centre-back and centre-forward.
This is why Virgili remains an option rather than an objective.
